Fire protection services

Passive and active fire protection solutions that safeguard people, property and buildings throughout their lifecycle.

Quality assurance

For us, quality will never mean a quick check and sign-off at the end of a project. Instead, it is built into the way we work – embedded throughout every stage, from planning and site delivery to inspection, completion, and ongoing improvement. Checkmate Fire combines independent standards, dedicated technical oversight, competent people, robust safety processes, and detailed evidence to ensure quality is a first and foremost priority.

QUALITY BUILT IN

Quality is threaded through each stage of every project we work on – not bolted on at the end for a final sign-off.

At Checkmate Fire, quality is never brought in as a final inspection before a project is signed off. In fact, we are so focused on high standards that we ensure we are held accountable by building dedicated checks and technical oversight in the way work is planned, delivered, and reviewed – with the right people involved at each stage.

From site planning and supervision to technical compliance and final sign-off, our teams monitor work as it happens, pinpoint any issues early, and record what has been completed. Alongside our third-party certification, this gives us several layers of scrutiny – and, importantly, quality is tightly controlled throughout the duration of the project.

HOW WE MANAGE SAFETY

Our CheckSafe initiative – safety built into every stage

At Checkmate Fire, safety is not about simply complying with policy. To us, excellence means anyone coming into contact with our work, during any phase of site operations, gets home safely. Our CheckSafe initiative fosters a deeply conscientious environment where every action and decision considers safety as paramount. It aims to guarantee the wellbeing of our personnel and facility users daily, while nurturing a culture that promotes health and safety awareness. All our teams are guided to ask themselves “Am I working safely?” and to use feedback to continually improve how we work. We also encourage building users to promptly engage with us if they perceive a lapse in adherence to standards, or have any questions about the way we are conducting ourselves as a collective.

  • All our colleagues undergo full DBS checks, supporting our commitment to safeguarding the people who work alongside us and the occupants of the buildings in which we operate.

  • Construction phase plans (CPPs) and risk assessment and method statements (RAMs) are uniquely developed around the specific requirements, risks, and condition of the environment we are working in.

  • Our robust safeguarding procedures are put in place to protect vulnerable people and support safe working, whatever the environment our team is operating in.

  • We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of health and safety management. CheckSafe sets out the principles and processes that underpin safe working across our operations. This can mean putting additional resources on site to monitor and audit work, as well as focusing on the everyday behaviours that prevent injuries – from handling heavy objects correctly to maintaining a hazard-free space.

  • Before work begins, our teams attend toolbox talks relevant to the project and working environment. Held at our training academy, this is another chance to absorb the risks, controls, and safe working practices that apply specifically to the site.

  • Our ‘safety big five’ checklist is adhered to in order to maintain the fire safety within the building and ensure it remains compliant. The checklist confirms:

    • Safety paperwork: the operative has access to and is in agreement with the site-specific safety paperwork.

    • Accident and emergency procedures: the operative is aware of site- and company-specific incident and emergency reporting procedures.

    • Correct PPE: appropriate and branded personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn at all times.

    • Environment: the workspace is clearly segregated from other building users.

    • Hazard free: the workspace is clean, tidy, and free from slip, trip, or fall hazards.

  • Where appropriate, we are always looking to maximise project-specific social value commitments – helping us contribute positively to the communities and environments in which we work

INDEPENDENT AND INTERNAL SCRUTINY

Quality under the spotlight from every angle

Third-party certification gives us an independent benchmark against defined standards – but our quality assurance does not stop there. At Checkmate Fire, we diligently add our own rigour through technical oversight, competent people, on-site monitoring, and detailed documentation.

Independent assessment

Our third-party certifications provide external scrutiny against defined requirements, giving you peace of mind with an independently assessed benchmark for the systems, competence, and work we deliver.

Dedicated technical oversight

Our in-house technical compliance auditors provide additional scrutiny, independently reviewing installation quality, materials, details, and workmanship alongside the checks carried out through normal project delivery.

Competent people

Technical competence sits at the heart of quality for Checkmate Fire. Our highly experienced teams bring specialist knowledge and unrivalled understanding of fire protection and engineering judgment to every project. Ongoing training and professional development ensure their expertise keeps evolving and that our people remain at the forefront of technical standards and regulatory requirements.

On-site monitoring and review

Quality is monitored throughout delivery, with dedicated personnel involved in checking work as it happens, identifying issues, and supporting sign-off rather than leaving quality control until the very end of the project.

Evidence and traceability

Electronic records, photographic evidence, completed schedules, certification, and location information provide a clear record for responsible persons and anyone with building safety responsibilities. This granular detail of what was inspected, installed, and signed off supports accountability and traceability and, for higher-risk buildings, leaves everyone confident in documentation to support the required golden thread of building safety information.

Learning and continual improvement

When any of the various checks of our quality assurance processes identify issues, our focus is not solely on correcting them. Feedback and findings inform toolbox talks, additional training, or changes to working practices, preventing the issue from recurring while ensuring we are continually raising standards.

RECOGNISED FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY EXCELLENCE

RoSPA Gold 2026

At Checkmate Fire, we are continuously seeking to raise the bar – as a business and in terms of the wider industry – and health and safety excellence is fundamental to the way we operate. We have been awarded a RoSPA Gold Award for the second consecutive year, recognising the strength of our approach to occupational health and safety across the business. RoSPA Gold is awarded to businesses that show well-developed health and safety management systems and culture, strong control of risk, and very low levels of error, harm, and loss. And for Checkmate Fire, this recognition reflects the safety culture embedded throughout our organisation, at every level.

This commitment is built into the way we work every single day. Our CheckSafe approach ensures safety is kept at the forefront, giving our people clear channels to communicate, share lessons, and raise concerns, while regular audits, site inspections, training, and competency management mean we can quickly identify risks and continually strengthen our approach. Combined with a strong workforce engagement and a focus on learning and improvement, all these processes ensure health and safety is an integral part of how we work every day – and not simply words sitting in a policy document gathering dust. This is the Checkmate Fire way: it is part of how we operate, on every site and across every area of the business.

INVESTING IN EXPERTISE

Building the expertise behind quality from day one

Our training academy plays a crucial role in maintaining the technical expertise behind our work. A thriving hub of learning and upskilling, it is home to onboarding, regular training, and continuing professional development (CPD) courses for all our people, ensuring they have a space to build on existing knowledge and stay current with evolving standards, products, and installation requirements. With realistic training environments and hands-on learning, our teams can test, develop, and demonstrate their skills – which helps us as a business build quality into our work from the outset.

The academy also serves as a centre for specialist fire safety training for our clients and industry professionals, supporting wider knowledge as we strive to raise standards across the sector.
